Vitebsk customs officers revealed an attempt to evade customs duties on a large scale importing a batch of new clothes disguised as used into the territory of the EAEU. A criminal case has been opened.
The MAN truck of the Latvian carrier, in which the goods were transported, was traveling through the Grigorovshchyna checkpoint.
The documents submitted for registration by the driver indicated that there were 4.6 tons of used clothes and shoes in the vehicle.
During the inspection, the customs officers had doubts about the declared characteristics - some of the goods had their tags cut off. According to the conclusion of the customs expert, more than 24.6 thousand pieces of clothing were new.
The non-payment of customs duties required for the illegally imported shipment amounted to more than 136 thousand rubles.
During further operational search measures, customs officers established that the scheme was implemented by a group of individuals by prior agreement.
Vitebsk Customs has opened a criminal case in accordance with Part 2 of Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to 6 years in prison.
