Brest customs officers found undeclared cultural valuables in the personal belongings of a Belarusian citizen who was returning from Poland.
He was traveling as a passenger in a VOLKSWAGEN passenger car through the Brest checkpoint. Something that only moves personal items is a good choice for crossing the border of the green corridor.
Examining the car, the customs officer drew attention to the presence in the man's personal luggage of an oil painting from the end of the twentieth century, two mantel clocks made of cast marble and copper alloy, and a gramophone.
The items were sent to the Customs Laboratory for examination. The expert concluded that the painting and the clock belong to cultural values.
The citizen said that he owned only a gramophone, and a stranger had asked him to transport the rest of the items across the border.
The Brest Customs has initiated an administrative process on this fact in accordance with Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Belarus. The sanction of the article provides for the imposition of a fine of up to 30 basic units with possible confiscation of illegally transported goods.
