A 46-year-old Belarusian man who tried to swallow a package of marijuana was detained by Grodno customs officers.
The man was traveling from Poland as a passenger in a FORD passenger car.
Passing through customs control at the «Kamenny Log» checkpoint, he stated that he had no goods with him that were subject to declaration, prohibited or restricted to movement.
The customs service dog did not confirm the citizen's words, indicating by his behavior the unequivocal presence of a prohibited substance in his luggage.
Fearing that the drug would be discovered, the citizen took the package out of his backpack and tried to swallow it. His actions were immediately stopped by customs officers.
An expert from the Lida Interdistrict Department of the State Committee for Forensic Examinations confirmed that the package contained marijuana.
The Grodno regional Customs has opened a criminal case against the violator under Part 1 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, and the Grodno transport prosecutor has authorized a preventive measure in the form of detention.
