Brest customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally import into Belarus more than 28 grams of mephedrone hidden in a package with detergent.

The crime was discovered at the Brest checkpoint, where a passenger bus, the SERRA, arrived under the control of a 48-year-old Belarusian.

The driver provided personal belongings and a shopping bag for inspection, which he took for transportation in Poland, which he later explained during the interview.

The customs officer decided to inspect the luggage using an X-ray machine. The resulting scan revealed an uncharacteristic attachment in the detergent packaging. The service dog also showed his reaction to the presence of prohibited substances in the Belarusian.

A polymer ziplock bag with a white crystalline substance was removed from the package. The conducted forensic examination confirmed that the seized substance is a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance - mephedrone.

Brest Customs has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to imprisonment for up to 10 years.
