Brest customs officers have established the illegal movement of three ancient icons recognized as cultural values across the border. The icons were confiscated pending a court decision.

The antiques were intended to be imported by a Belarusian citizen living in Germany, bypassing the legislation.

She followed in a car with a German registration through the "Brest" checkpoint.To cross the border, she chose a red chfnnel to mark the temporary entry of the vehicle.

Additionally, during the oral interview, she explained that she did not have any goods subject to customs declaration with her.

Only during the inspection of the car customs officers found icons hidden under the covers in the pockets of seats - "Our Lady of Akhtyr", "Our Lady of Eleus Tolga", "Our Lady of All Mourning Joy".

The expert's conclusion of the Customs Laboratory is that the icons were made on the territory of the Russian Empire more than 50 years ago, dating back to the XVII-XVIII centuries, XIX - early XX century.

The total estimated value of the items recognized as cultural values amounted to more than 6 thousand Belarusian rubles.

The Brest Customs has initiated an administrative process in relation to the citizen in accordance with Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Belarus.
