Belarusian customs officers stopped the import of about 136 kg of hashish from the European Union for further sale in Belarus and Russia. Belarusians and Russians involved in the criminal scheme, who acted by prior agreement, were detained in cooperation with their Russian colleagues.
An attempt was made to import 320 briquettes with a compressed substance from Poland, hiding them in specially equipped hiding places in a truck of a Polish carrier transporting alcoholic beverages.
Brest customs officers sent the vehicle for inspection using X-ray inspection complex. The resulting scan showed the presence of an uncharacteristic darkening in the lower area of the semi-trailer on the Latvian registration plates.
During further dismantling, hiding places were established - drug caches were equipped in the floor of the toolboxes of the semi-trailer.
The substance was sent for examination to the State Customs Committee for the Brest region, which confirmed that it was hashish.
It was possible to detain eight participants of the criminal scheme during operational search activities in the territory of the two countries together with Russian customs officers.
Brest Customs has opened a criminal case against a group of individuals under Part 2 of Articles 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, and the competent authorities of Russia have opened criminal cases against individual participants under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 5 of Article 228.1, Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Now, criminals between the ages of 30-37 can be imprisoned for up to 20 years.
