Belarusian customs and border guards have revealed a criminal scheme for the movement of military goods disguised as civilian equipment to the countries of the European Union.

So, four citizens of Belarus, in collusion with other unidentified persons, imported engines, block cases, transmissions and their components from Russia, which are used in the creation of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.

In Minsk, tags were removed from armament parts, attachments were removed, and Chinese characters were painted and marked. Thus, they were given the appearance of supposedly Chinese-made engines for power plants.

Further, the modified goods were placed under the export procedure in order to be exported to the territory of the EU.

The Operational Customs officers stopped two trucks with 24 converted «Chinese engines», after which urgent investigative actions and operational search measures were carried out with the border guard service personnel, in cooperation with Brest customs officers.

Another 22 searches were carried out, during which armaments and about 100 thousand US dollars in cash were seized.

Criminal cases have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 333-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The suspects were detained in accordance with Article 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Belarus, two were arrested.

In total, 200 components of armaments were seized in criminal cases. Further operational search measures and investigative actions are being carried out.
