This year, compared with last year, there has been a twofold increase in offenses related to the illegal movement of funds through the Belarusian-Polish border. Brest customs officers have already identified 645 administrative offenses and initiated 8 criminal cases.
One of the latest facts was stopped at the Brest checkpoint. A Ukrainian citizen traveling in a MERCEDES-BENZ car chose a green corridor to cross the border. It is provided for following in the absence of goods subject to declaration. At the same time, the woman hid 42 thousand US dollars in equivalent on herself - packed in tights, which she tied around herself.
Brest Customs opened a criminal case against the citizen under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. She faces a fine or restriction of liberty for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same term.
In another criminal case initiated by the customs against a German citizen, the Brest Transport Prosecutor's Office adopted a preventive measure in the form of his detention.
Thus, when customs control was carried out at the Brest checkpoint against the 43-year-old driver of an AUDI car, Brest customs officers found that the amount declared by him was almost half the amount actually being moved.
The man filed a declaration for 70 thousand euros, and hid the rest of the money, 73 thousand US dollars in equivalent, in the armrest of the car and the pockets of the bag. The criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The Belarusian customs once again warns of the need to comply with the established rules for the movement of cash across the border, the violation of which entails liability up to criminal.
