Brest customs officers removed more than 1 kg of mephedrone and over 3.2 thousand tablets with the drug, imported for further sale in Belarus and Russia, from music speakers.
The entire "chain" of criminals was established during operational search activities by units of the customs authorities of Belarus in cooperation with the Federal Customs Service of Russia. The organizers of the scheme, who were expecting the supply of substances from the European Union, were detained on Russian territory.
So, one of the participants turned out to be a 25-year-old driver of a Mersedes-Benz passenger bus who arrived from Poland at the Brest checkpoint.
In the customs declaration, the Belarusian indicated used items and purchases, stated that he had no goods prohibited or restricted to movement.
The customs officer was suspicious of the man's music speaker. They scanned it and saw unambiguous suggestions. As a result, a package in a plastic film with more than 1 kg of a white crystalline substance sprinkled with coffee beans was extracted.
The forensic examination also confirmed that this is a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance mephedrone.
The second inventor, the driver of a Seat Leon passenger car, who also arrived from Poland, filed a declaration for an imported used coffee machine.
Only a scan obtained as a result of an X-ray examination of the luggage and hand luggage of a 32-year-old Belarusian showed an uncharacteristic attachment inside a similar object - a music speaker.
After dismantling the equipment, customs officers removed 16 polymer bags with more than 3.2 thousand Subutex tablets.
Brest Customs has initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, and the Russian Customs service - under Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the sanctions of the articles, criminals can be imprisoned for up to 10-20 years.
